Massage Cupping

Cupping massage is a negative pressure technique performed with suction cups, either stationary or with movement. It offers a more comfortable alternative to some release techniques. This method can decrease inflammation and can help the body open and release restricted joints, connective tissue and muscles. In essence, massage cupping benefits include: draining and moving fluid, decreasing inflammation, calming the nervous system, lengthening muscles & connective tissue, loosening adhesions or scar tissue, bringing circulation, hydration, & oxygenation to the treatment area. Cupping therapy is also a successful lymphatic drainage technique.

Myofascial Release Massage

Myofascial massage is a technique used to treat injuries and discomfort, reducing pain and increasing range of motion. Myofascial massage differs from other types of massage in that it targets the fascia - the membrane surrounding muscles - rather than the muscle itself. Since fascia completely encases every muscle in the body, imbalances in the fascia can have serious effects on your range of motion and comfort level. While other forms of massage can overlook the fascia, myofascial massage focuses specifically on releasing tension in this important membrane.

What is:

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.

Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques

The Myoskeletal Alignment Technique (MAT) system brings together the most advanced therapeutic strategies to relieve, and ultimately correct, patterns in the body that lead to pain and deterioration. With MAT therapy, clients can be free from pain, avoiding invasive surgery or toxic pain medications.

  • Relieves chronic pain contributing to weak posture

  • Releases trapped nerves from tight muscles, joints and ligaments

  • Corrects atrophy, weakness and muscle amnesia in head-forward postures

  • Addresses breathing disorders caused by a drooping ribcage

  • Lessens pain sensitivity through graded exposure assisted stretching

  • Eliminates protective muscle guarding due to joint dysfunction

  • Improves sleep by lowering sympathetic nervous system tone

  • Creates dynamic, confident posture with innovative restorative techniques

  • Corrects sports-related tendon and joint injuries

  • Enhances athletic performance through hands-on proprioceptive training

  • Changes the brain’s mind about pain through targeted exercise advice

  • Prevents chronic neck and back pain due to tension, trauma & weak posture

Prenatal Massage

Research acknowledges the relationship between stress, sleep and certain pregnancy outcomes.  By promoting relaxation and providing comfort for common pregnancy discomforts, prenatal massage creates an overall sense of wellbeing and enhances the mother's instinctive abilities to create and nurture.

Therapeutic Massage Insurance Coverage
Using Your Flex Spending Account or Health Savings Account for Massage Therapy

Healthcare costs aren't nearly as fun to save for as a beach vacation or a flat-screen TV, but with a flexible savings account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA), you can save money- tax-free-from each paycheck and use the funds toward your therapeutic massages. It's important to make the most of the funds you have already allocated-especially in the case of FSAs, which give the funds back to your employer if the dollars aren't used by the end of the calendar year.

Now is the time to look into getting a flexible spending account (FSA) or a health savings account (HSA) if you don't already have one.  Based on the federal tax code, a qualified expense “must be to alleviate or prevent a physical or mental defect or illness.” If you’re like the majority of clients who seek massage for help with chronic pain, stress, and other issues, your massage therapy session will likely qualify. In order for your massage to be covered, there are a few steps you’ll need to take:
1.  Get a prescription for massage. You’ll need a prescription for massage for it to count as a qualified medical expense.  Talk to your medical practitioner (any healthcare provider who can write a prescription).
2.  Make sure the prescription contains these three pieces of information: Reason for prescribing massage therapy or Medical Necessity, Frequency and Duration.  For example: Two sessions per month for 12 months to relieve chronic low back pain.
3.  Schedule your appointment. Please bring in a copy of your prescription so you can receive your treatment tax free.
4.  When you pay for your treatment session make sure you receive a “medical receipt” for your massage. The receipt should include the insurance classification code and a description of the therapeutic service.

* Remember that even though an expense is approved, you could still get audited by the IRS. So keep your written prescription and your FSA statement. If you don’t have an FSA or an HSA and are wondering what they are, here are some broad definitions:
A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a tax-advantaged financial account that allows an employee to set aside a portion of his or her earnings to pay for qualified expenses, most commonly for medical expenses, and is offered through an employer’s cafeteria plan or traditional health plan. Money deducted from employee’s pay that goes directly into an FSA is not subject to payroll taxes, resulting in a substantial payroll tax savings!  FSA's generally expire at the end of each year.  Be sure you use what you allocated to the account or you will loose it.  A Health Savings Account (HSA) is also a tax-advantaged medical savings account available to people who are enrolled in a high deductible health plan. The funds contributed to the account are not subject to federal income tax at the time of deposit resulting in additional tax savings at the end of the year!  HSA's are owned by the individual, and funds may be used to pay for qualified medical expenses at any time without federal tax liability. Unlike an FSA, funds roll over to the next year if not spent.

If you don't have one of these accounts, be sure to enroll to reap the benefits and save money!

Nothing relaxes muscles as enjoyably as massage plus heat, which accounts for the lasting popularity of hot stone services. Heated bamboo massage is a technique for anyone wanting a relaxing and luxurious spa massage or for anyone who needs some serious deep-tissue bodywork for overworked and injured muscles. Throughout the massage, the therapist will use several different warmed pieces of compressed bamboo to work the tension out of each muscle. Long fluid strokes in different styles like Swedish, deep tissue, lymphatic drainage, or neuromuscular therapy are used to stretch and compress the muscle and tissue. This increases circulation, Flushes body of metabolic wastes (i.e., lactic acid) for faster healing time and detoxification, Decreases muscle spasms, Breaks up tissue adhesions, Releases endorphins to promote relaxation and pain reduction.
